Observation Narrative
A well-drained, elevated floodplain along the North Meherrin River, at the foot of an unusual monadnock-like hill of mafic rock (see plot LUNE006). Most of the floodplain here has been cutover or converted to pine plantations, but this stand probably represents the natural vegetation, at least on the better-drained terrace near the river. The plot was sampled prior to full leaf-out of trees and shrubs; therefore cover estimates are somewhat tentative. A summer revisit is also needed to assess changes in the herbaceous flora.
